Countryside, Sea and Natural Reserve
Around Masseria Vaccaro, a natural area to be discovered develops.
Over 15 hectares wide fields surrounding the structure are intended for agricultural cultivation: vineyards, wheat, olive groves, artichoke groves.
Over 500 small olive trees have recently been planted, being them resistant to the Xylella bacterium - which is currently destroying entire centuries-old olive groves in Salento.
You can immediately notice that the farm has a slight slope towards the Royal Canal, which runs about 100 meters away. The Royal Canal is an ancient river of modest size which flows through the entire Province of Brindisi, from Villa Castelli to Brindisi, crossing eight municipalities.
Since ancient times, proximity to water has been an essential and rare asset for carrying out all agro-pastoral activities.
Along the route of the Royal Canal, a system of rural buildings arisen over the centuries is set. That represented a rare and precious resource for such a parched and dry land like Salento Puglia.
The link between the small river and Masseria Vaccaro is still clear, both in the geomorphological structure of the resort and in the natural facing of all the internal courtyards on the - once natural - banks
of the stream.
Today a river trail network is increasingly developing, featuring many points of historical-artistic interest.
Il Canale Reale sfocia nel mare Adriatico ovvero nel pieno della Riserva Naturale e Oasi WWF di Torre Guaceto.
The protected area is famous for its crystal clear waters, pristine beaches and rich biodiversity.
This protected area also includes a wide humid zone, habitat for numerous species of birds and marine fauna, making it an ideal place for nature and sea lovers.
